Qur’an Classes

Stage 2 Talqeen & Tilawah Reading
Course Description/Content
In this course, students will focus on applying the knowledge and skills learnt in Nooraaniyyah courses through recitation of Surah An-Naas to Al-Bayyinah. The emphasis will be on correct recitation by demonstrating clear/accurate letter articulation (makharij), showing characteristics of letters (sifaat), and applying rules (ahkaam) correctly/consistently. The teacher will write verses/ayat on the white board then analyze all the Tajweed/Tilawah concepts to help students build recitation skills, strengthen understanding and application of Tajweed and Tilawah rules. Adult learners will be provided with copies of surahs without any symbols/vowels to analyze with the teacher. Teacher will demonstrate the proper recitation of the assigned verses in class, rehearse with students several times and correct any errors, then students will be required to practice at home in order to recite for the teacher next class.
Children will be assigned homework to write the verses in a notebook. Writing ayat/verses will enhance reading skills, develop writing skills, and help in memorization. Indeed, adults will gain the same benefits as well.
Adult learners are highly encouraged to audio record their weekly recitation (note: strictly forbidden to record teacher or other students). Self-recording gives students access to teacher’s feedback/corrections and improves recitation more quickly. Each class, students are required to bring the same Mus-haf for the teacher to note any errors/corrections in recitation.
In this course, students will focus on recitation while applying Tajweed & Tilawah skills learnt in the Nooraniyyah stage. The focus is on open book recitation more than memorization, unless the student is capable of both simultaneously.
Students will cover
The teacher will write surah/ayat on board (adult students will be provided with copies of surahs without
any symbols/vowels) then analyze all Tajweed rules and concepts to help students strengthen their understanding and application of Tajweed.
The teacher then demonstrates the proper recitation of assigned surah/ayat, then allows students to recite in class before practicing at home to recite next class.
Assessment
* Teachers will assess students on a regular basis (during each lesson) and provide them with informal feedback.
* There will be midterm and final assessments on the lessons covered.
* Minimum mark required to pass the course is 70%, students who miss 20% of course risk not passing course.

Course description

In this course, students with their teacher’s mentorship independently prepare assigned surah/ayaat and present them from memory while their teacher evaluates them. The teacher may recite for the student (Talqeen) if needed to ensure the quality of recitation is maintained and review rules when necessary.
Assessment
* Teachers will assess students on a weekly basis (during each recitation) and provide them with informal feedback using Tajweed and Memorization mark on the Qur’aan.

* To pass the recitation/memorization courses students must earn a minimum of 70% in each category (Tajweed & Hifth).
Prerequisite Course: Successful completion of Courses 1 & Course 2.
